The Province of British Columbia recently announced a new $1,200 BC Training and Education Savings Grant for BC resident children born on or after January 1, 2007. To access the grant, families must open a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) before eligible child's seventh birthday (or by February 28, 2014 for children born in January or February 2007). No matching or additional financial contributions are needed to access the $1,200 savings grant. If families already have an RESP set up, no further action is required at this time.

"I Care About You": National Child and Youth Mental Health Day - May 7
The 2012 survey by RBC Foundation on Children’s Mental Health, http://www.rbc.com/community-sustainability/_assets-custom/pdf/2012-Childrens-Mental-Health-Parents-Poll-White-Paper.pdf, stated that “the time for acceptance of mental health is now – not a generation from now. Life-saving conversations hinge on parents’ comfort level with deeply unsettling topics, and on their trust that communities will rally to support them”. The Institute of Families believes this is possible by starting with…I care about you.
Many may already have plans for Child & Youth Mental Health Day and the Institute of Families is looking forward to supporting plans and adding to them. Visit their website at www.instituteoffamilies.ca
On May 7th, the hope is to come together to connect with kids to build awareness and support their mental health.
